CBD FAQ's
WHAT IS CBD?
Ok, let’s start at the very beginning. What exactly is CBD??
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a plant-based compound found in hemp -- the same plant from which we get hemp seed milk (a yummy alternative to cow’s milk), fabric, and bird feed. CBD is not an essential oil (it’s thicker than an essential oil and extracted differently), but we can think of it similarly as far as how it can be used and how it can help support our health!
When you use CBD products, your body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) is affected, which is why CBD is called a cannabinoid. The way cannabinoids affect our bodies depends largely upon the way they interact with the CB-1 and CB-2 receptors in the ECS. We’ll talk more about this later, but the specific way that CBD interacts with these receptors is what makes it such a great therapeutic option! CBD has some wonderful properties that we will talk about in a bit!
IS CBD LEGAL?
So…. is CBD legal? In short, yes.
The Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018 legalized hemp-derived CBD that contains less than 0.3% THC. The Nature’s Ultra CBD from Young Living is 0.0% THC and, according to this act, is legal in all states in the USA.
Marijuana-derived CBD is still illegal in all states (one of many reasons we don’t recommend using CBD from any other company). Some states have stricter laws than others, so we suggest checking your state’s specifications for more.
It’s also important to note that CBD is not allowed on military bases at this time, so we highly recommend checking the details of your particular situation.
IS CBD SAFE?
CBD is considered “generally well-tolerated with a good safety profile” according to a 2018 World Health Organization report; however, you have to be extremely careful where you purchase CBD.
The greatest concern with CBD, however … is quality control. In 2015, the F.D.A. found that many CBD-labeled products actually contained very little CBD.” - Moises Velasquez-Manoff, NYTimes
Getting your CBD from a trusted source with high quality control is incredibly important, and Young Living has the best quality control system in the industry.
Nature’s Ultra CBD is derived from hemp plants grown on their partner farm in Colorado without the use of any pesticides. This is hugely important! Because of the nature of CBD, it can enhance what’s around it, and pesticides are the last thing we want to be ingesting or spreading across our skin! Nature’s Ultra as a company is committed to organic farming practices and regenerative agriculture, a pledge that we appreciate as consumers.
All of the Nature's Ultra products have been subjected to rigorous laboratory testing to ensure the optimal amount of CBD without any heavy metals (a common contaminant in other brands of CBD). All of the products are tested in multiple stages of the manufacturing process for potency and purity, and their proprietary extraction method makes harsh chemicals unnecessary. All of this together results in the purest form of CBD available, and it’s right at our fingertips!
DOES CBD HAVE PSYCHOTROPIC PROPERTIES?
One of the biggest concerns that people have with CBD is that it would have psychotropic properties like marijuana. Let us ease your worries!! CBD does NOT have these! That means you can use Nature's Ultra CBD products without having to worry about the effects of THC or binge eating all the Einkorn granola in your kitchen!
Pure CBD, known as CBD isolate, contains no THC, which is the mind-altering chemical found in marijuana, making CBD a great option for therapeutic use!
“The 2 major phyto-cannabinoid constituents with central nervous system activity are THC, responsible for the euphoric and mind-altering effects, and CBD, which lacks these psychoactive effects.” -- PubMed
HOW DO I USE CBD?
As with any medication or supplement, it is best to start low and go slow because every person is different. You should plan to use your CBD consistently and frequently before gauging how much more you may need. As always, we suggest finding a medical professional you love and trust and working together with him or her on chronic issues!
The general recommendation for dosing is to start low and gradually increase the dose every five to seven days if needed. Because everyone is different, you may need to step up your dosage and/or strength after 30 days until you’ve reached your desired goals. Starting lower gives you room to add a higher dosage as needed and ensures you are using the least amount possible to see desired effects.
One of the best ways to absorb CBD oil is by placing drops directly under your tongue and holding them there! Why? You get better absorption!
When you swallow a pill, it has to go through your entire gastrointestinal tract, be absorbed in the intestines and filtered through the liver (and sometimes is only active after being processed in this way). Only then is it sent to the bloodstream.
BUT when a substance is placed under your tongue, it readily absorbs through the mucous membranes found there. There is heightened blood flow beneath the tongue because of the concentration of capillaries, so you have a fairly direct route into your bloodstream. This results in the substance or medicine working faster, and often, better. This is also why using the CBD drops internally will typically give your better results!
To use: Place 1 dropper full under the tongue and let sit for 30-60 seconds before swallowing. Take up to 3 servings per day or as needed.
For topical use: Apply to desired area and massage gently.
CAN I USE CBD ON MY CHILDREN?
Using anything, conventional or not, with your kids can be overwhelming, and we understand that! A few years ago, many families moved to states that legalized CBD usage first because they believed in its value that much, and the reports from these families are incredible!
While there are no studies on the long term effects of CBD usage in children, the current studies and testimonials speak volumes. Many popular uses doctors are seeing are the same as the adult uses discussed earlier -- pain management, ADHD, Autism, sleep support, seizures, focus, and more.
A great way to give children CBD drops is by adding them to Ningxia Red, a smoothie, yogurt, or even water. We highly urge you to discuss usage and dosing with a CBD-knowledgeable physician and start at the lowest dosage.
IS THERE A DOSING CHART?
